In this self-portrait, I translate aspects of divinity such as the halo and heavy white robes to myself. The simplicity of my figure is distinct, relative to the complexity and brightness of my surroundings; it emphasizes that there is beauty in the organic even in the face of extravagance. Subverting the standard of nondescript purity and happiness takes courage, but the reality of life—while much darker—is still beautiful in its stark honesty.
